Two in hospital after bus crashes down embankment on A9

A bus overturned on the A9 near Aviemore, resulting in two individuals being transported to a medical facility. The incident occurred shortly after 9:40 on Sunday, prompting a coordinated effort by firefighters, ambulance teams, and police officers to manage the situation.

The vehicle involved was an electric bus traveling from Inverness to Edinburgh, operated by the company Ember. The A9 was temporarily closed for approximately two hours before reopening to traffic. Visuals captured at the scene revealed the bus partially lodged on a grassy incline, with several emergency responders attending to the aftermath.

Passenger accounts and emergency details

George Rennie, a traveler on a separate Ember service, recounted the event. He was heading home to Inverness from Glasgow and arrived at the crash site to assist injured passengers. “We had to reverse at the junction as the driver received a message to do so,” he explained. “Then, we were informed that those not hurt would be boarding our bus to leave the area.”

“Around nine people got on—most had minor injuries like cuts and bruises,” Rennie added. “One passenger was thrown to the floor, and another hit his face on the seat, causing a lip wound. Others described feeling a sudden jolt and seeing the front window break inward. Many reported flying forward and colliding with seats.”

Ember confirmed that one of their vehicles was involved in a single-vehicle collision on April 12. A spokesperson expressed gratitude to the emergency services for their swift action and stated the company is cooperating fully with ongoing police investigations.
