Razzie Awards 2026: Anti-Oscars name ‘War Of The Worlds’ as Worst Picture

In a tradition that contrasts with the Oscars, the Golden Raspberry Awards—or Razzies—announce their selections before the Academy honors the year’s finest cinema. While the Oscars spotlight excellence, the Razzies focus on cinematic missteps, often sparking debate among fans and critics alike.

This year’s 46th edition of the awards crowned War of the Worlds, featuring Ice Cube, as the most egregious cinematic failure. The film, an Amazon-backed adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic, was deemed a disaster in the eyes of the Razzie panel. Its absurdity and lack of coherence left little room for argument, with critics calling it a “cinematic crime against humanity.”

“It’s hard to argue with that assessment, as the laughably naff Amazon-sponsored adaptation / devastation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel can only be considered a cinematic crime against humanity.”

Further amplifying its reputation as a disaster was the fact that War of the Worlds dominated nearly every category. It claimed five awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Director (Rich Lee), Worst Actor (Ice Cube), Worst Screenplay (Kenny Golde, Marc Hyman), and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel. Only four other titles managed to secure Razzie recognition this year.

Disney’s reimagined Snow White received two Razzie honors, both for its CGI dwarfs: Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screen Combo. Rebel Wilson’s action-comedy Bride Hard was awarded Worst Actress, while Gunslingers landed Worst Supporting Actress for Scarlet Rose Stallone’s performance. These choices highlighted the Razzies’ penchant for picking films that blend humor with outright incompetence.

Redeemer Award: A Backhanded Praise

Kate Hudson was honored with the Redeemer Award for her Oscar-nominated role in Song Sung Blue. Despite her history of Razzie nods—including for My Best Friend’s Girl (2008), Mother’s Day (2016), and Music (2021)—the award recognized her redemption in a year filled with cinematic flops.
