Matthew Perry’s stepmother says ‘Ketamine Queen’ should get maximum sentence

Matthew Perry’s Stepdaughter Demands Maximum Sentence for ‘Ketamine Queen’

In the wake of Matthew Perry’s passing, his stepmother has urged a California judge to impose the harshest possible prison term on Jasveen Sangha, the woman accused of supplying the drugs linked to his demise. The statement, delivered in a victim impact letter filed on Tuesday, highlighted the lasting consequences of Sangha’s actions. Debbie Perry described the harm as “irreversible,” stating that the loss has left “no joy… No light in the window. They won’t be back.”

Sentence Severity and Charges

Sangha, who could face more than 60 years behind bars, has been charged with five counts, including the distribution of ketamine that resulted in death or severe injury. The upcoming sentencing on Wednesday marks a pivotal moment for her case. Perry, who was discovered unconscious in his Los Angeles jacuzzi in 2023, had been using ketamine as part of a monitored therapy for depression. Medical professionals later ruled his death an accident due to the “acute effects of ketamine.”

Context of the Incident

Perry, famous for his role as Chandler Bing in the 1990s sitcom, had long battled substance abuse. His stepmother’s statement emphasized Sangha’s deliberate choice: “You who has talent for business enough to make money chose the one way that hurts people.” Despite her apology to Perry’s family, Sangha remains heartless, according to Debbie Perry, who insisted on the maximum sentence to prevent further harm.

“There are no excuses for what I did. I am deeply sorry for the pain I caused, especially to Matthew’s family,” Sangha told the Sun while incarcerated.

Other Convicted Individuals

Sangha is among five individuals tied to Perry’s death. Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who sold ketamine at $2,000 per vial, was sentenced to 30 months for distributing the drug in the weeks prior. Another physician, Mark Chavez, received eight months of home detention and three years of supervised release. Plasencia’s texts revealed his attitude, including a message that read: “I wonder how much this moron will pay,” which was cited in court.

Chain of Supply and Pending Sentences

Sangha worked with Erik Fleming to deliver 51 vials of ketamine to Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. Iwamasa administered multiple injections, including three on October 28, 2023, which led to Perry’s fatal condition. Sangha then ordered Fleming to erase all communications. Iwamasa and Fleming are set to face their own sentencing in the coming weeks.
