Savannah Guthrie visits ‘TODAY’ studio as she plans to eventually return to show

Savannah Guthrie Returns to ‘TODAY’ Studio Amid Ongoing Search for Missing Mother

Savannah Guthrie, a co-anchor of the NBC morning show, stepped into the TODAY studio on Thursday, marking her first appearance since her mother’s disappearance. The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts has now spanned 32 days, with no definitive answers yet. Guthrie’s visit was not broadcast, as she prioritized being with her family during this difficult time.

About the Disappearance

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Feb. 2 after dinner at her daughter Annie’s home in Tucson, Arizona. She was reported missing on Feb. 1 when she failed to arrive at a friend’s residence for an online church service. Authorities have indicated the case could involve a kidnapping or abduction, though evidence remains limited.

“Savannah expressed her desire to come back to the show, despite the emotional toll. It’s her home and where she feels deeply connected,” Jenna Bush Hager shared during the broadcast, her voice trembling.

Sheinelle Jones, co-hosting the third hour of TODAY, added: “We’re not out of the storm, but there’s a light somewhere even in the midst of the storm.” She emphasized that Savannah’s return to the set was a significant step. “Whenever you are ready, we are here,” Jones told Guthrie, offering unwavering support.

Photographs from outside the TODAY studio captured Guthrie visibly emotional, wiping tears and hugging her colleagues. These images underscored the personal impact of her mother’s absence. The Guthrie family has also offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery.

FBI’s Findings

On the day Nancy vanished, the FBI retrieved doorbell camera footage showing an armed and masked man near her home. Investigators have since identified him as a suspect, though his identity has not been publicly revealed. The suspect is described as a man between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build.

From the camera images, he was seen carrying a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. Daniel Arkin, a senior reporter at NBC News, has been covering the case closely. Guthrie, while on hiatus, continues to advocate for her mother’s safe return, acknowledging both the hope and uncertainty surrounding the situation.
