Blue Bloods star Alex Duong’s heartbreaking final comment weeks before death at 42 amid cancer battle
Heartbreaking Final Words of Blue Bloods Star Alex Duong Before Cancer-Related Death at 42
Alex Duong, a comedian and actor renowned for his role in Blue Bloods, expressed optimism about overcoming his illness just weeks before his passing.
The actor, who was 42, succumbed to septic shock on Saturday after a prolonged struggle with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.
“I just found out my boy Alex, he’s been battling eye cancers, quite a while… and it was going good and he recently had a seizure. And the thing with the seizure, they found out he has something in his spine, man.”
In his last social media update, Duong shared a video reposted by his friend Chris Tran, who manages the Little Saigon, Westminster Instagram page, urging fans to assist during his worsening condition.
“Duong, in his final message, wrote: ‘[clapping emojis] I will walk out of here’.”
Hilarie Steele, a family friend, informed TMZ on Sunday that Duong passed away on Saturday at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, after suffering from septic shock the previous night.
Initially launched by Hilarie Steele to aid Duong’s efforts in restoring his vision, the GoFundMe campaign now seeks contributions to support his wife Cristina and their five-year-old daughter Everest following his passing.
A staple of the Los Angeles comedy scene, Duong was recognized as both a performer and a door attendant at the iconic Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. Raised as the youngest of six children in Dallas, Texas, to Vietnamese and Chinese parents, he relocated to Los Angeles to chase his entertainment ambitions.
His career encompassed stand-up, acting, and writing, with standout roles on Netflix’s Historical Roast, CBS’s Blue Bloods, and The OnlyFans Roast of Whitney Cummings.
After experiencing intense headaches near his eye, Duong was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft-tissue cancer. Despite undergoing aggressive treatments like an eye patch, the disease progressively affected his health, resulting in the loss of vision in his left eye and accumulating over $400,000 in medical costs.
Even as his condition worsened, Duong remained active, continuing to perform and advocate for himself, which resonated deeply with the comedy community and global audiences.
