Artemis II crew sets new space record

The Artemis II astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft recently shattered a previous distance record from Earth. They traveled farther than any humans in history during a nine-day journey, surpassing the Apollo 13 crew’s 248,655-mile (400,171km) mark. Contact was reestablished with astronaut Christina Koch, who shared:

“It is so great to hear from Earth again.”

Commander Reid Wiseman’s wife passed away from cancer in 2020 at age 46. The crew is currently on day three of their loop around the Moon’s far side, with NASA preparing for a lunar landing by 2028. Their mission includes testing spacecraft maneuvers and providing updates to families via video link.
