Jamie Fountain and Ellie Ireland faced legal proceedings following the tragic death of 13-year-old Noah Campbell in a collision. The incident occurred in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, on Friday evening at 23:50 BST. Two additional teenagers sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized. Both Fountain and Ireland were charged with multiple offenses, including causing death by careless driving and failing to report the accident. They were remanded in custody and are set to appear again at Luton Crown Court on May 5th.
Fountain, a groundworker, was operating a BMW at the time of the crash. Ireland, his girlfriend, works as an EasyJet cabin crew member and was seated as the passenger. The courtroom included family members of Noah, as well as those of the accused. Police reported on Sunday that one of the two injured teenagers was still in critical condition.
The family of Noah Campbell shared a heartfelt tribute through police, highlighting his vibrant personality and popularity. “He was a fun, bright, handsome, athletic boy who was incredibly well-liked,” they said.
Authorities revealed that Fountain was charged with causing death by careless driving, along with offenses related to alcohol and drug levels exceeding the legal limit. Additionally, he faced charges of causing serious injury by careless driving, failing to stop at the accident scene, and not reporting the incident. Ireland was charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The case will proceed to Luton Crown Court for further hearings.
