Gaza and West Bank Face Escalating Violence as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

Recent days have seen multiple violent episodes across different locations. A drone strike near the Nuseirat refugee camp claimed seven lives outside a local grocery establishment. In another incident west of Khan Younis, an educator sustained injuries after reportedly being struck by Israeli forces while conducting lessons within a temporary classroom facility.
Al-Kheetan emphasized that nine months following the ceasefire declaration, no region within Gaza can be considered secure for Palestinian residents. He warned that the Israeli military appears to routinely engage Palestinians simply for their presence near the yellow line, actions that potentially violate both international human rights frameworks and humanitarian law.
West Bank Settler Violence Reaches Critical Levels
Parallel to the Gaza situation, the West Bank is experiencing unprecedented levels of settler aggression. Statistical analysis indicates that settler-related incidents now constitute 55 percent of all Palestinian injuries recorded in 2026. This represents a dramatic escalation from 2020, when such attacks occurred approximately once every three days. By 2026, the frequency has surged to more than three incidents daily.
“We condemn all killings of civilians,” the UN Spokesperson declared on Tuesday. “Under international humanitarian law, civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected.”
Education Recovery Amid Persistent Challenges
Despite ongoing security concerns and operational limitations, humanitarian organizations continue efforts to restore educational access for Gaza’s children. Following more than two years of severe disruption to schooling, partners have successfully facilitated structured learning for 435,000 pre-primary and school-aged children during the first half of 2026. This initiative includes approximately 9,300 children with disabilities who now benefit from 610 temporary learning spaces.
Additionally, around 344,000 children have received essential teaching materials, while aid organizations have provided support to 11,000 teachers and education personnel. These efforts focus on emergency education protocols, disability-inclusive programming, quality assurance, and the creation of safe learning environments.
International Response and Future Outlook
UN Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator Susanne Tkalec recently engaged with leadership at the Emirati Hospital in Rafah to explore practical solutions for addressing medical and humanitarian needs. OHCHR has verified 685 Palestinian deaths from October through mid-April, with 283 of those victims being women and children, primarily killed in Israeli attacks reported across the entire Gaza Strip.
Al-Kheetan stressed that the ongoing violations and suffering imposed upon Palestinians cannot remain unaddressed. He called upon third States to take immediate action to demand full ceasefire compliance, halt all violations, and ensure proper accountability and justice for affected communities.
Continued military operations, new displacement patterns, and worsening access conditions have further constrained humanitarian assistance delivery while elevating protection concerns throughout Gaza.
